1) Does CSUN have a local chapter?

Yes.  It is recognized by the National Chapter and the university.  There is a $10.00 fee to join.  Dr. Karen Jones Green is the chapter advisor.  The meetings are held online.  Other activities have been discussed by the executive committee such as sponsoring a workshop on campus annually. 

2) What do the initials NSSLHA stand for?

They stand for National Student Speech Language Hearing Association.

3) What is it?

It is the national pre-professional organization for undergraduate and graduate students interested in the study of human communication and related disabilities.

4) What are the advantages of joining National NSSLHA?

  • You will receive the NSSLHA journal entitled Contemporary Issues in Communication Science and Disorders (CICSD).
  • You will have access to the NSSHLA Newsletter.
  • You will receive the ASHA Leader.
  • You will select one ASHA journal.
  • You will have reduced fees for the annual ASHA Convention.
  • There are special events for NSSLHA members at the convention. Students can interview at the Job Fair at the convention. 
  • You will be able to purchase professional liability, medical and dental insurance through ASHA group plans. Professional liability is required for externship.
  • You will have significant savings on the NSSLHA-to-ASHA conversion program if you have been a NSSLHA member for 2 years.
  • There is a CICSD Mentoring program for students to received assistance from more experienced writers in order to publish.
  • There are opportunities to participate in community-oriented projects.
  • There are opportunities for awards and grants.

5) How do I join National NSSLHA?

You can apply online at http:///www.nsslha.org/join/default.htm.  The fee is $45.00

In summation, NSSHLA's goal is to represent students regardless of setting whether they are in the classroom, in the clinic, or just entering the profession.  Professionals and policy makers are remindeders of the student perspective.
